Namaste, yogis!

As a mother, wife, yoga instructor, now entrepreneur; never have I needed my yoga practice more than ever. And, it's not just me. Many of my fellow instructors and colleagues are constantly finding balance between serving others and themselves. I was inspired to create this practice for them and anyone who serves others on a day-to-day basis. Whether you are a care-taker, parent, volunteer, instructor, you name it; it's time to refill your well and commit to self-care.

The practice of Yin Yoga has offered me calm, rest, and solace against the backdrop of my active lifestyle. I understand how time is limited so the poses can be held anywhere from 2-5 minutes per posture. There are four poses in total: Sphinx, Butterfly, Reclined Twists, and Caterpillar with three variations per pose. Note that shavasana is not photographed here but highly recommended at the end of your practice. I hope this at-home sequence will leave you feeling replenished, renewed, and in a better mindset to serve.

Some things to note: because this is a Yin practice the names of the postures are different. For example, Butterfly Pose might be better known as Baddha Konasana or Bound Angle Pose. Another critical factor to note about Yin - this is a passive practice where we nourish and access the deep connective tissue of the body. Meaning, we find a mild "edge" we can sustain, relax our muscles, and then stay anywhere from 2-5 minutes.  For a more in depth look at what Yin Yoga is, please see my post "Zen and Confused." And, as with any exercise program, please consult with your health care provider first to see if Yin is appropriate for you.
